Before the implementation of the digital product passport, the current ecological design regulations are still the basic threshold for lighting products to enter the EU market. According to the Single Lighting Regulation (EU) 2019/2020, which will be implemented in September 2021, products must meet clear indicators before they can be put on the EU market.
The light efficiency of directional LED light sources shall not be less than 120 lm/W, the non-directional light sources shall not be less than 140 lm/W, and the entire LED light shall not be less than 105 lm/W; the standby power consumption shall not exceed 0.5 W; the strobe must meet PstLM ≤1.0 and SVM ≤0.4; the color rendering index CRI ≥80; the light flux maintenance rate must provide L70/B50 data for no less than 30,000 hours; the spare parts supply guarantee shall be no less than 7 years.
In addition, products must be registered in EPREL (European Energy Efficiency Label Product Registry) and affixed with an A-G energy efficiency label with a registration QR code. There is one detail that repeatedly makes suppliers stumble: EPREL registration is for "light sources", not the whole lamp with a shell. Separately replaceable LED modules must be registered and tested separately, and combined application with the lamp body may cause the compliance status of the entire product series to fail.
For project purchasers, the practical advice is very direct: request the EPREL registration number and test reports covering light efficiency, strobe and light maintenance rates during the selection stage. Compliance is now a matter of selection, rather than a process of filling up documents afterwards.
